Breastfeeding is HARD. Whoever is out there saying otherwise has probably never nursed a baby. There’s so many things about breastfeeding that can cause so much stress - issues with an incorrect latch or supply issues, tongue ties and let’s not forget all those two hour feedings - EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for sometimes months on end. You can always have your partner help with night feeds but if you’re anything like me, the baby making any noise at night will wake you up faster than an alarm clock and at that point I’m already awake so I’d just rather go ahead and feed the baby myself at that point. All of those feedings can be so draining and one of the last things you want to deal with while nursing is a supply issue which can make baby super fussy at the breast ( been there and I swear I felt so defective and lacking ). With my second daughter my supply started dipping when I returned to work and I was absolutely freaking out - it was my goal to breastfeed for 6 months to give my baby those great antibodies and wouldn’t you know I was only pumping anywhere from 2-4 ounces at a time. I was so upset and just the thought of doing all of that hard work pumping to barely get any output had me wanting to just stop altogether. I persisted and was able to get my supply back up with a little bit of help from galactogogues. Now of course you can buy the supplements and just take the pill form however I thought “why not kill two birds with one stone” and get a snack while also helping my supply. I started making lactation cookies at home. You can also buy premade ones at the store (usually in the baby section with the nursing supplies) however the premade ones can be EXPENSIVE and this mama is on a budget!  I used to make these cookies all the time and would snack on them throughout the day and I did notice an increase in my supply with this specific recipe. ( I tried several recipes but my body seemed to respond to this one best)

The ingredients aren’t too hard to find although the first time I went looking for them I had to get a store employee to help me for some of the more unusual items

*Fenugreek is a supplement and it will be located in the vitamin aisle of the supermarket

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanill extract

  • 2 cups whole wheat flower

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 3 cups of oats

  • 3/4 cup milk chocolate chips

  • 1/4 cup yeast (brewers or active dry yeast)

  • 10 fenugreek capsules ( open capsules and pour contents into mix , DONT PUT WHOLE CAPSULE SHELLS IN)

  • Mix water and flaxseed meal

  • Mix dry ingredients together and put aside

  • Mix wet ingredients together

  • Slowly blend wet and dry ingredients together
